Motor Insurance

In terms of the Road Traffic Act in Zimbabwe, a vehicle or trailer cannot be used on a public road unless there is Full Third Party insurance in force covering it.

Private Car Insurance
This class of insurance relates to the various types of private passenger carrying vehicles which are used for social, domestic and personal business purposes. There are three basic forms of policy cover that are: Comprehensive Policy, Full Third Party Fire and Theft Policy and Full Third Party Policy.
Full Third Party (FTP):- This covers liability for death or bodily injury to others plus damage to property of others up to a certain amount limit.
Full Third Party, Fire and Theft (FTPFT):- It covers all what is covered by FTP plus damage or loss by fire or theft to insured vehicle.
Comprehensive:- It covers FTPFT plus accidental damage to insured’s vehicle, medical expenses and towing charges.

Commercial Vehicle Insurance
This relates to vehicles designed for the carriage of goods (other than light vehicles which are generally rated as private cars).The policy cover is similar that provided by Private Car Insurance with only few additions and general exceptions.

Motor Traders Insurance
This class of insurance is for motor repairer or distributor who may want to cover vehicles in his garage and at the same time, either owned by him or being sold, repaired or serviced by the business.

Motor Fleet Insurance
A Motor Fleet Policy is taken by a business that has 20 or more vehicles of one or more types.

Motor Cycle Insurance
Policy cover is similar to that of Private Motor Insurance i.e. it might cover comprehensive, Full Third Party Fire & Theft and Full Third Party.

Special Type
This policy is intended to cover vehicles that are regarded as ‘special type’. These are motorized vehicles which are not used on public roads but mainly within a company’s premises, for example, fork lifts.
